In Cannes, France, the Cannes Film Festival 2022 is taking place. With their great films, a number of international filmmakers participated in the festival. Pakistani filmmakers were given the opportunity to display their great film Joyland this year, which received a lot of attention and success. After the screening, the crew earned a standing ovation.

Ali Junejo, Alina Khan, Rasti Farooq, Sarwat Gilani, Sohail Sameer, Salman Peerzada, and Sania Saeed feature in the film Joyland. Saim Sadiq, a first-time director, directs the picture. The director was overjoyed by the enormous success. Saim appreciated his cast, saying that they brought the characters to life.

It was the first ever screening of a Pakistani film in Cannes. Joyland is a delicately woven story of love, acceptance, and grief. The plot centres around a jobless cis man who meets a trans woman in a bar and falls in love with her. He agrees to work with her, which changes the dynamics of the household. Joyland is a short story that depicts the intricacy of gender roles, as well as how society deals with them and how individuals react to them.

As a debut picture, Joyland receives high accolades and a standing ovation, and it was a spine-chilling experience for the cast. They all rose to their feet in delight and warmth, anxiousness and happiness visible on their features. The cast members Sarmad Khoosat, Sarwat Gillani, Sania Saeed, Saim Sadiq, and others were overjoyed to receive the standing ovation. Joyland is the only film from South Asia to be selected for the Cannes Film Festival.
